Want to know what Mr. Y usually does on his free time?  He makes fangames!  Like this one!

Posted Image

Yeah, I've been working on this game for a pretty long time now... give or take three years.  Two of those years were procrastination.  But enough of that, let's get to the good stuff.

Screenshots
NOTE:  Some of these are pretty old, so expect some blandness.

Posted Image
The very first part of the first level.  Looks like your standard Mario level, eh?

Posted Image
Let's start your basic power-up arsenal with everyone's favorite Fire Flower.

Posted Image
There will be lots of Star Coins to seek out.  Will they contribute towards anything important?  We'll find out soon enough.

Posted Image
Luigi's coming along for the ride as well.  Of course, he jumps higher and has poorer traction than his brother.

Posted Image
The five Toads of assorted colors will show up in various levels to lend a hand.  This ranges from giving you items, seeking out Star Coins, and --once in a blue moon-- assisting you with taking out certain bosses.

Posted Image
...and to keep things fresh, gimmicks like these will pop up every now and then.

...and to keep things even fresher, you won't be seeing a lot of these boring grassland levels!

Features
- Traverse across eight (or nine?) large worlds in the Mushroom Kingdom, while finding pieces of the dismantled Star Rod (more on that later).  No princess saving here, folks... at least not yet anyway.
- Familiar power-ups will return, like the obligatory Fire Flower, the long-absent Cape Feather, and the then-overpowered (but now nerfed improved upon) Blue Shell.  There won't be a lot of classic power-ups though; there will be some new ones as well...!
- The ability to play as Mario or Luigi, each with different abilities ala Lost Levels.
- Many secrets to find, like Star Coins and alternate exits (that's right, there's going to be an SMW-esque map in this).

Demo?  Pretty please?
I've completely finished working on World 1 and a good portion of World 2... as well as some random levels from various worlds; all that's left is bosses and cutscenes and all that fun stuff.  Plus, there's also bugs I have to fix before I release a demo of some sort (don't wanna rush and release a crappy game).  If you're really curious as to how this game looks in motion, I will upload a gameplay video eventually once I figure out how to get better sound with my recording software.

Anyways, C+C and suggestions are appreciated; I'll need all the help I can get.

I like the sprites! Did you make them yourself?

This looks great, I absolutely love the graphical style!

Also, I see health units.  Do you keep your power-up until hit once?  Or is it more like you keep your Power-Up till death?

The screenshots and sprites remind me of Super Mario World.

@ Silent Viper:  Yep.  Everything except for the backgrounds and some HUD display objects (which were edited) was made by me.  Plus, a lot of the sprites (especially Mario and Luigi's) were based on the simple style of SMW, with the modern flair of NSMBWii.

@ MegaMan Volnutt:  Like in Super Mario Galaxy, you can keep your power-up until you get hit once.

@ Everyone else:  Thanks for the comments!  I'll be posting more screens once I make some more progress.

Wasn't it a time limit instead of a hit-point thing when it came to Fire and Ice Flowers in SMG?

ON-TOPIC: UOooooooh! Looking forward to playing that! Me like this!

This looks very interesting! The gameplay will probably feel familiar to me, since it's probably SMW-like. And the sprites seems oddly familiar to me too... For some reason they remind me of Chaoxys' (Shy Guy Grey) sprites from the Midas Machine fangame. Though it's probably just me...

Looking forward to a demo soon! That, or a video would still be okay.

How about those slow replies.

@ GPD:  Oh yeah, I forgot about those.  I was mostly referring to items like the Boo and Bee Mushrooms, though.
@ Facecake:  I guess you can say our sprites are similar (Chaoxys is the better spriter here, though).

Oh, and here's a little preview of the first boss.  Also counts as proof that I'm still working on this.

Each mid-world Fort/Tower and end-world Castle level will have a unique boss fight.  Of coruse, you'll be warming up by taking on Private Goomp first.  By the way, the mid-boss will almost always have a relation to the Castle boss and theme of the world (and I bet you'll figure them out, too :)).

Also, expect a video sometime this week... because I've been showing too much text and not enough action.

Sounds great! I love Super Mario World! Anything that takes from it is fine by me. Also the inclusion of hitpoints instead of a 1 Hit Wonder Mario sounds interesting.

Any sign of Yoshi, though?

Is this an unofficial sequel to Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story?

Also, expecting Private Goomp to be like Bandanna Dee in terms of how you fight him.  amirite?

EDIT: Will there be any sort of option to have the other bro follow you?  Even if he doesn't do anything?

@ Booton:  Thanks!
@ KY:  Yoshi?  Actually, I haven't even thought about including him anywhere.
@ Think of it as a sort-of-sequel to BiS and NSMBWii, with some Paper Mario-ish elements thrown in.  Also, expect Private Goomp to be more competent than Bandanna Dee.  Plus, about the other bro following you, you mean like how Tails follows Sonic in some Sonic games?  That will happen in certain areas.

Sorry to keep you waiting!  Excuse the audio quality, though.  It's the best I could do.

@ Color King:  Yep.  But their actual role?  I'll talk about that later.

Looked through it, I have to say... It is great. I love the pipe that gives away coins, the design of the levels, and just about everything else. I wonder though, what could the Golden Mushroom do? That mini-boss looked really hard. Can't wait to see more!

That was amazing.  I like how you can't grow small, it's a nice change.  I think I know what the M&L blocks are for :rank3:

One thing though, Mario's forward standing sprites look like they could use some work.

Oh, and,
Spoiler

Just to let you all know, progress on the game has been going great so far; World 1 is just about 85 percent complete, and World 2 is halfway complete.  I would show some screens, but I'm using a school computer right now.  And for the sake of keeping this thread alive, here's a few more details for what's in store:

-  World 1's major boss is somewhat grassland-related, and given that Private Goomp is the mid-boss of this world you could figure out who this is (don't worry, this was intended).
-  In fact, all of the bosses are Bowser's most loyal followers.
-  To answer Color King's question, Golden Mushrooms restore ALL of Mario/Luigi's health.
-  I haven't mentioned the plot yet?  I won't spoil much, but it has something to do with Star Spirits, Star Sprites, and Ztars...
-  ...and Starlow is much more important to the gameplay than you think.
-  Wario and Waluigi will show in in certain levels to screw up your progress (like stealing your Star Coins and such).
-  Princess Peach will not be kidnapped.  Neither will Princess Daisy.  Wait a minute, what's she doing in this game anyway?  Oh yeah, she introduces you to one of the new (?) power-ups.
-  The demo will have all of World 1 fully playable.
