Nintendo has finally released more information regarding its latest, zany party title, Mario Party 9. The vehicle that we've seen Mario and friends riding around in appears to play a big role in the game's gimmick. Each character will take turns being "Captain" of the vehicle, meaning they can control which path it will take and land on certain lucky spaces. There will also be "Captain Events" that will affect the pace of the game. Boards play different than in past games as well. Now, there is a definite beginning and end, and players must guide the vehicle through plenty of branching paths to reach the end where a Boss Battle lies for all players to take on. The only revealed boards right now are Toad's Road and Boo's Horror Castle. For more info, check out the game's info page at Nintendo.

Now this gimmick seems a bit interesting, but how would the star collecting work?

Although, I do kinda want to see more regular boards. Like ones from the earlier games, like practically no gimmicks.

Mario Party 8 was a bit disappointing because the closest thing they had to regular boards was the first DK one.

also WHAT THE EFF HAPPENED TO THE A BUTTON MASH GAME
PISS OFF SHAKEY SHAKE GAMES THE MASH IS THE BEST
i cry

I hope they bring back A button mash mini games :l

Mixed feelings on this...

It seems more like a "team" game now, and it shouldn't be. Mario Party has always emulated a board game, pitting 4 people against each other or in teams of 2. This...seems way too much like a "team" game :/

Oh look here. Boss battles? Dear mother of God. Is it gonna be like MP4 where you go one-on-one with a special character?

I'm thinking it will be more like Mario Party DS.

aw man i was hopping for a batter game. on mario wiki it said that nintendo is basing the game off the gameboy advance one (note the car) saying that they are bringing back the old mario party well i dissagree. in my opinion the 2 best mario party games are MP2 and MP5 they need to have more liuke that. or at least have certan boards that are like those ones.

Anyone else notice that they don't actually have Stars in the screenshots? I guess this has something to do with Mini Star concept.

Honestly, I have to give Nd CUBE some credit for having the balls to mix up the formula a bit.

Can't really judge it until you try it out, just look at Super Paper Mario.

I'd say that's a bad example of trying different things. (But then again, I don't like Super Paper Mario so to each their own).

As for Mario Party 9: I think it's interesting what they're trying here, but I can't help but be a bit skeptic about it as well. One thing that's confusing me here is that if all the characters are in the same car the whole time, it makes me wonder how players can strategically ruin the other players out of stars, coins, or other goodies. (Assuming that items and board traps are still around).

Mario Party is a competitive game not a team game. I bet they won't include any boo related bosses

Mario Party 9 has already been released in most countries--this topic has been here since December. It does have Boo-related bosses, Dry Bones and King Boo, as well as a Boo-themed stage, Boo's Horror Castle.
